Just a 15-minute drive from the M50 and situated on the outskirts of Ashbourne, Co. Meath, the Open Farm at Newbarn offers an engaging and educational experience. Free of charge for customers of the Farm Shop and Donkey Shed Restaurant, our Open Farm is a delightful opportunity to connect with the heart of rural life.

Our Open Farm is a haven for a variety of farm animals, each with their own charm. Thank our chickens for their delicious eggs, meet Neddy and Dani, our amiable donkeys who love to greet visitors (particularly those bearing carrots!). Neddy and Dani graciously relocated from their original dwelling – the ‘Donkey Shed’ – when we decided to convert it into a restaurant.

Sharing their pasture with Neddy and Dani are the ‘Cowdashians’, our playful young heifers. Our farm is also home to cheerful pigs, friendly goats, and Buster, our adorable Shetland pony.

Most of the animals at Newbarn have been rehomed from various places. While we’d love to offer a home to every animal in need, it’s not always possible. We encourage visitors to remember that, although our goats, donkeys, pigs, and others are friendly and captivating, they require specialist care and ample space. They are indeed wonderful to visit but might not make suitable pets for the average household.
