Nestled just outside of Ashbourne, Co. Meath, and only a 15-minute drive from the M50, The Donkey Shed Restaurant stands as a testament to local farmers and artisan food producers. We take pride in using fresh, locally sourced ingredients, many harvested directly from the fields of Newbarn Farm.

Our restaurant is housed in a beautifully converted barn, once the home to our beloved donkeys. This charming setting is where Chef Lee and his team craft mouthwatering creations. From hearty breakfasts and gourmet sandwiches to enticing main courses and delectable desserts, every dish is designed to showcase the freshness and quality of our local ingredients. We believe in simplicity and authenticity, serving homely, comforting dishes made extraordinary by our attention to detail and commitment to freshness.

Our menu is further enhanced by an excellent selection of wines and locally brewed craft beers. Whether you’re enjoying the sun on our spacious patio area for al fresco dining or warming up next to our two wood-burning stoves on chillier days, The Donkey Shed Restaurant promises a dining experience that is both satisfying and memorable.

Seasonal Menus

Fruit and vegetables taste best when they are in season, and that is why we change and update our menus on a regular basis to showcase the best seasonal produce available to us. Our kitchen team are always experimenting and inventing new dishes to bring you delicious new flavour combinations and creations.

Farm to Fork

Chef Lee Hession collaborates directly with Farmer Andrew, ensuring that your lunch at The Donkey Shed is as fresh as it gets. From field to plate, our produce could have been harvested just hours before reaching your table.

Wine & Beer

We have worked closely with our wine supplier, Wines Direct, to have a small but perfect wine list to accompany our menu. Many of our wines come from small producers in keeping with our farm to fork ethos.

We also have a selection of bottled and draft craft beers from the local Rye River Brewery as well as the irreplaceable Guinness on draft.

Special thanks to the Hens

The highlight of our Breakfast menu are the farm-fresh eggs, laid daily by our hens at Newbarn Farm. These eggs travel just a short distance from henhouse to your plate, making every dish, from classic scrambled eggs to indulgent eggs Benedict, exceptionally fresh and flavorful. It’s this dedication to local ingredients that sets our breakfast menu apart.
